Fiona Apple’s lyrical ambition was sometimes beyond her grasp, but that doesn’t make her songs less enjoyable. She’s reaching for the stars with this lyric, but doesn’t get there:
But as the scenery grows, I see in different lights
The shades and shadows undulate in my perception
My feelings swell and stretch I see from greater heights
I understand what I am still too proud to mention to you
I’m still listening, though. I’d rather someone try than become self-imposed populist hacks like Eagles. And yeah, I went there. Eagles suck.
